Impeccably designed and completely restored
1977 toyota hj45 land cruiser
Classic 4x4 is elated to present this fully restored and custom-designed 1977 Toyota HJ45 Land Cruiser pickup. This Land Cruiser recently underwent a complete frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration in Costa Rica, completed in 2024. The restoration was designed, commissioned, and overseen by our client, a renowned United States-based Doctor of Architecture with Costa Rican heritage. Finished in Light Blue Metallic with Parlour Blue diamond-stitched Crest Italian Leather upholstery, no detail has been overlooked. Custom elements include inward-facing bench seats in the bed, a light beige canvas and brown marine vinyl bikini top, a bed-mounted spare tire carrier, and an intuitively redesigned dashboard. Power is sourced by a rebuilt original powertrain with an inline 6-cylinder diesel engine, 4-speed manual transmission, and dual-range transfer case. This impeccably designed vehicle cruises comfortably with modern amenities, including air conditioning, heat, power steering, power brakes, LED lighting, and a touchscreen digital infotainment system with custom speaker mounts.
History
Toyota Land Cruisers are synonymous with capability and reliability. Toyota produced the J40 Series from 1960 to 1984. The J45 long-wheelbase version was only produced from 1963 to 1979. The J45 was predominantly available in international markets in pickup and station wagon variants powered by several options. Those options included the 6-cylinder "H" diesel and "F" petrol engines and a 4-cylinder "B" diesel engine. In very limited quantities and only in the FJ45 pickup configuration, the United States saw these unique vehicles for only four years, from 1963 to 1967. The HJ45 variants were only available in the international markets and produced for seven years, from 1972 to 1979. The few HJ45s currently in the United States were imported from abroad. This HJ45 pickup began its life in Costa Rica, where it was acquired by the current owner in 2022 and subsequently underwent a full restoration, completed in 2024. The current owner legally imported the vehicle into the United States in December 2024. It is located with our client and current owner in New Jersey. In addition to a clean and clear New Jersey title in the current owner's name, import documentation is included in the sale.
Exterior
The body presents itself impeccably and is finished in a custom blended Light Blue Metallic. The body and frame were sandblasted, refinished, and painted during the restoration. They are free of any rust, rot, or imperfections, and the paint shows with shine and depth. The frame, custom bed-mounted tire carrier, and underside suspension, braking, and powertrain components were painted in custom blended gloss black with blue metallic pearl. The HJ45 conquers all terrains on a new set of 15 x 8 reproduction Toyota-style steel wheels with chrome hubcaps wrapped in 31 x 10.5 BF Goodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires. The rear inward-facing folding bench seat frames are finished in Light Blue Metallic, upholstered in diamond-stitched Parlour Blue marine vinyl, and feature two point lap seat belts. A custom-designed light beige canvas and brown marine vinyl bikini top, with folding Light Blue Metallic frame, shields the rear passengers from the elements or provides open air enjoyment. The glass, window, and door gaskets and body mounts were replaced during the restoration. The glass is in good condition and free of any cracks or chips. The exterior lighting was replaced, upgrades include LED headlights, front bumper-integrated fog lights, and off-road lights mounted under the rear tailgate. There are no known major cosmetic imperfections, as pictured in the gallery and noted in the CarScore inspection report.

Interior
The interior presents itself flawlessly. The bench seats, door panels, steering wheel, visors, and shift boots were upholstered in Parlour Blue Crest Italian Leather. The seats and door panels are accented with diamond stitching. The dash was completely redesigned to incorporate a clean and modern look with new recessed switches and air vents. It also features a new gauge cluster, touch-activated LED lights, 12V USB outlets, and a Pyle touchscreen digital infotainment system. The new air-conditioning and heating systems and infotainment and custom speaker mounts seamlessly integrate into the design. The odometer shows 73 miles since the restoration was completed, though the true mileage is unknown. There are no known major cosmetic imperfections, as pictured in the gallery and noted in the CarScore inspection report.

Mechanical
The powertrain was completely rebuilt and the braking, electrical, steering and suspension systems were updated, replaced or refurbished. The Toyota “H” 3.6 Liter OHV inline six-cylinder diesel engine is mated to a H41 four-speed manual transmission and dual range transfer case that sends power to the wheels through front and rear K082 axles. A smoother and more capable ride is provided by an updated suspension with new leaf springs, shocks and increased clearance and articulation soft ride shackles. Stopping power is controlled by front disc and rear drum brakes with new components, lines, power brake booster, master cylinder, and proportioning valve. Responsive steering is produced by a refurbished power steering pump and components with new high and low-pressure lines. Electrical components are powered by a new wiring harness. Under the hood, the HJ45 was fitted with a new electric fan, hoses, belts, starter, battery and custom LED lighting. There are no known mechanical, electrical or systems flaws and all components function as designed.
